I got my chuck last week and what a difference it makes, everything is easier, quicker and less wasteful
I've made my first square top bowl, its only about 3" wide. Both of these are made from oak with really good colours and patterns in the grain(a really big bit of trunk).
Then I had a go at joining different pieces of wood, and made this candlestick for a huge candle we had kicking around. The stem is oak the ends are from an old door frame, haven't a clue what it is but its very soft and lightweight but turns and finishes easily.
And some baubles for xmas, the small one is the unknown wood with a band of oak and the other is beech/mystery wood. The beech part is hollowed out the best I could with a spindle gouge. The small one has one of those eye screw thingys to hang it but I thought that looked a little big so I made the one for the larger bauble myself from an old guitar string(a g!)
Last but not least I've made some spinny things!!! A mushroom from oak and my mystery wood and a flying saucer from ash, mystery wood and oak.Pinched the idea from a website These things are great and the saucer spins for around 3 minutes (everyones desk should have one!)
