First link is to a thread not a router bit but the second link is the type of cutter you want to bead faceframes, I use a 6.4mm (1/4") one as the others are really too large for **** beading.

I usually just masons mitre the moulding and hold the faceframe together with pocket screws then fix to the carcase with biscuits. You could also use dominos for both.

Personally I would stick with the 6.4mm , this is also the right sort of size if you want to do beaded match boarding for end panels etc so one cutter will do it all.

Jason

My preference is for the 4.8mm one for kitchens and cabinetry and either a 6.4 or 8mm one for large built ins such as wardrobes. I prefer dominoes for assembling the face frame and also dominoes for attaching the frames to the carcases which can either be clamped on or pocket screwed.

Some pics in this thread as to how i do them https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/kitc ... 30837.html

Hi,

I use an old moulding plane, it makes a nice 6mm (1/4 in the old money) bead and is near silent

How would you do them without the domino machine?

You could do a mortise and tenon which is a lot more time consuming. You could just glue and pocket screw the joint needs clamping to stop the joint riding up when you drive the screw in. You could also make your own router jigs to either loose tenon or dowel the joint together.

I've made a fair number of units following JonnyD's method over the last year or so, very successfully - mostly with painted mdf carcases and softwood face frames. This one is the corner of a shop display unit, but most of the other pieces have been alcove units in Victorian houses:

I use the smaller beading cutter, and a 45 deg mortar groove cutter cat no T190-1/2 from Wealden. Run a bead on a test piece first so you can gauge the depth to make the stile/rail joints. But when you come to making the face frames, do all the stile/rail joints first with the 45 cutter, and then run the bead afterwards. If you do the bead first you get a little bit of whiskery breakout that is a real pain to clean up after glueing up.

I reckon Kreg got their idea for their face frame kit from Jonny's original WIP thread  Seems very expensive to me.

Thanks for that. I was just trawling the wealden site after looking in their catalogue and I could not find it online.
