This is not a 'proper' piece!! just quick rough .. very rough .. trial!
it is my first go at inside out turning and I enjoyed it, even though it is made of a binned bit B&Q mixed sawn timber and was like turning a cheesestring, and a cracked binned bit of ash.
It IS unusual! in a 'what the hell is that?' :?:  kind of way!
just need to be brave sometime and chop up some real wood to make a proper one.

Hope you are not offended by this but

That`s scary , it looks like something from the Alien film

Its green and looks slimey

interesting inside out turning ? what did it look like not inside out ?

You do like tackling the interesting mrs.s, definitely different on the finishing front.

Well done.

I suspect that, like me, you get bored just turning out bowls and have a go at different things. Try googling 'woodturning' then in the 'search within results' box at the bottom put in 'sculpture' There are some beautiful things out there, and some crazy ones too. Great for inspiration.
I must admit the finish is very unusual on your turning, makes it look almost ceramic. Having seen it I must have a go at one myself. I've got hold of a set of old square table legs that I was wondering what to do with.

I'd follow Mrs S on this - use scrap wood first - and maybe second and third. It all depends on how soon you grasp the inside-out maths and dimensioning - not too easy! Surpisingly difficult to sketch out too - much thought required!

Second tricky thing is attaching the four pieces more than once. Minimal amounts of glue cos you have to cut off the glued bit each time, unless they can be 'broken' apart very neatly! With care you can get to 3 or 4 'glue-ups'. With less care you end up with some very squat finished shapes!!

But that certainly is an unusual finish.

my ... er ... unusual finish was done with linseed oil and green cake colouring! (cake decor being a pastime of the past)
thank you Brodrighy for that search thing!! all the stuff that inspired me is 50 light years out of my league  , but certainly something to aim for!!!
I separated the pieces easier by putting a layer of paper in between the pieces when gluing up.
I am hoping to try out some of the good advise I've had on here in the next week or so in finishing and candle safety. As I go and start chopping up and sticking together my nice bit of purple heart, hope it works out, [-o< not my strong point!!

mrs. sliver have you seen Margaret Garrard demonstrate inside out turning, she makes some tremendous pieces and her work is really inspiring. I have often thought about having a go but lack a planer thicknesser at the moment. Well done and keep doing it.
