Bay window problems

Has anyone had any experience of rennovating bay windows. These are quite large and replacement is not an option.

The frame work is distorted a bit but worst are the mitre joints which are open (No doubt due to the efffects of the weather)

What are the options for 'closing' up the joints or would filling them and sanding to shape be a better option.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Remove any rotten wood. Apply wood hardener. Fill with car body repair stuff. Sand. Paint.

If the rotten area is large then scarf in a new piece then make good.

Even better option than car filler is to use "dry flex", an extremely high quality product that is easier to use as well. As Roger says, cut back the rotten wood to sound wood, completely open the joint and then inject the dry flex. Simple and extremely strong.

I second the application of dry flex rp.

it's not cheap but it is the perfect solution for window repairs.

Strangely ive done 14 windows this week, replacing rotten sections and one done using the old 'car body filler and securing screws' method that has always been used.

If you splice timber in to make it go further, one set would probably surfice.

word of warning, when wet you can only clean it off with their cleaner (but baby oil works just as well)... and wear gloves..
