Three simple boxes. I used machines to cut the wood to size and to plane it.

The rest by hand and sans abrasive. Last of the Christmas gifts. Nothing much to speak of aside making use of contrasting scraps of ash and dark oak. Also using a continuous piece so the boxes can be orientated in a sequence.

I don't enjoy making small items all that much. I prefer something of scale.

They are great! Boxes are still on my to do list, I’ve tried dovetails a few times but not been happy, they need some dedicated practice time. One day.

understated
I was about to use that word as well. Understated and wholesome.

Which is a curious matter - but I've long felt rather the same. I'd rather extend to the large (an oak roof truss, say) than to the miniature, but my common realm is the middle ground ... :)

Thanks chaps. They aren't too time consuming. I would say the hardest bit for is the lid. Tiny clearance gaps and small hinges aren't my normal work.

Thanks Oscar. Some small brass butts I had left over from another job. Not really nice ones but they do the job.
