Hi guys,

was wondering how important bandsaw inserts where?
Mine broke and I’ve been using the BS without it
Any help Appreciated

I'd replace it as I think it's invaluable when cutting smaller stuff. My concern would be small pieces dropping into the bottom guide and jamming the blade.

Mine has a circular insert. I simply turned a few on the lathe from a plastic kitchen chopping board. Works fine.

Thanks guys, well, I took my bandsaw table off and directly underneath where the insert should be I noticed some damage to the plastic casing. Anyone know what this does? And where I can buy one?

much appreciated

If you were cutting large stock without the insert and fingers aren't near, it's probably OK, but I would never cut anything small without the insert. Without support under the wood, it could get dragged down suddenly and fingers could touch the blade. Ouch!! The part below the blade is a finger guard, they get damaged by the blade touching or bits of wood pulled down by the blade. They have to be designed to allow the table to tilt. On my bandsaw, it would still be possible to touch a running blade, but difficult to chop a finger off
