brought a record 350 bandsaw at the ally pally, changed the blade from the standard blade to a half inch blade. set it the way it should be,

but the blade seems to wobble slighty, givin the cut of timber a bumpey finish,

is it the quality of bade or, have i not set it up right,

plz help

Need a bit more info please.

What do you mean by wobble ? Front to back or side to side ?

What blade type/size/make ?

What kind of timber, type/depth, straight cutting or curves ?

Any more details you can give will help figuring out the problem.

Cheers, Paul. :D

wobbles slightly side to side, blade is siting in middle of wheel, guides are in place, its a 6tpi half inch bade,

im cutting half inch sw wood, and stright lines come out with a rough finish, nothinhg like what the showman showed me at the show

now bought the half inch one at show, the one supplided and fitted cut very well, but diddnt like the quater ibch.

i use half inch at work all the time, and it gives a nice cut, so why anit mine, did get two half inch, so could it be a crap blade? or im setting it up wrong?

Hello,
Have a close look at the point where the blade is welded together. It could be the case that you have a blade with a bad weld, if so, i'm afraid there's no other option than to replace it.
cheers,
jon.

ok cheers, gonna change it to my other blade i brought, bit cold out in garage so it can wait till tomorrow

Have you adjusted the guides above and below the table ?

First slacken them all off completely, then bring them up to just lightly touch the blade and tighten them. Important not to deflect the blade while doing this.

Then lower the top guide so that it is just above the top of the piece of wood being cut.

If you still have problems then it may well be the blade quality. Did you buy them from the stand you bought the machine from, or from the Hamilton Edge stand ? If the latter then they are usually very good quality, but if "give aways" or even standard Record type then likely to be cheap and cheerful and the source of problems.

Hamilton Edge are good, as are Dragonsaws 01443 819910.

You are right that a 6tpi decent blade properly set up should give a reasonable finish, as long as you don't feed the timber too fast.

Cheers, Paul. :D

Hi there,

As Waka says... what is the blade tension like?

I've had a Record 350 for a few years now. My tensioning mechanism was always hard to adjust. I finally discovered the problem when a blade would not tension up. The thread on the tensioner had picked up - and then the final insult was it sheared off. When I took it to pieces I wasn't surprised it is a flawed design. I have since made my own replacement part and it has made tensioning easy. I figure that it was picked up from day one as it was so tight. I have fed back my thoughts to Record - I doubt they have changed it yet (if ever).

Good luck setting it up - I've just been using mine but apart from that and a few other minor annoyances it is a very capable machine.

Cheers
David

sorry took long to reply, yer saw is 2 speed, its on fast.

have put in my other spare blade, wobble anit as bad now, cut is still a bit bumpey, could that be my feed rate, being to fast. its a brand new blade so its cutting through with ease.

year brought the blades from a stand at ally pally. might order my next lot from sharp saws.

Record have a travelling engineeer whom if called out should give his assessment. If the half inch blade was supplied by record you should get full service from him.
If you look at some previous posts of mine on bandsaw blades there is a supplier who will give a satisfaction guarantee on any blade they supply.

If you bought the blades from a stand at Ally Pally I think that would have been Hamilton Edge whose blades are normally very good, so not convinced that they are the problem, especially if you have the problem with both blades to some degree or other.

Think Waka might have got it with the tensioning of the blade, if you put the top guides up as high as you can and then press the side of the blade you should have no more than a few mm deflection to either side of vertical I think as a rough guide if tensioned adequately. If more than this then tighten up some more. Do all this with the saw switched off and unplugged of course

Cheers, Paul :D

sorted, went out and did the tesion thingey, and it works fine now, although still has a slight bumpey feel to the cut timber. but this is normal, rite, to a certain extent. i had my blade to slack

Glad you got it sorted. Spot on Waka !

A slower feed rate would probably help some too.

Cheers, Paul. :D
