Hi lads first post but there will be many more better ones than this I, m looking for a little help lads
I, ve been doing wood ork for a wee while now and I, m looking to take the jump and buy a larger
bandsaw I, ve been useing a wee jet one uptill now but looking or a better one so I borrowed my friends
So I can see if this is the one I, m looking to buy but we have ran into a problem . We got the machine
in the workshop yesterday and was looking to clean it all up as it, s not been run in a while .I spent about an hour cleaning it all then I went to test it but nothing all I hear is a humming noise .after reading a few things some lads
said it, s the capasitor now I, ve been trying to find one but can, t does any one have the know how or a link on one
The bandsaws a record power bs350 and the capacitor is a facon EN60252 450Vac .cl.C 50Hz
please can any one help
Cheers atb steven

Very probably, but I am no expert. As long as the values are the same (and the size may be important if its a tight fit in a case for example.)
I think your original is 12.5uf , 450v whereas this one is 12uf 450v, but in my own experience its close enough.

Personally if not fitting an OEM cap, I'd look for one with a greater rating. Downsizing will only lead to premature failure. These machines are built to a budget regardless of what the brand is, therefore components are the bare minimum they can get away with.

In this case I'd be looking for ideally a 25uF cap.

That got me thinking

So I looked up capacitance and Farads to see what's what.
from http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/capacitor2.htm...

" Farad
A capacitor's storage potential, or capacitance, is measured in units called farads. A 1-farad capacitor can store one coulomb (coo-lomb) of charge at 1 volt. A coulomb is 6.25e18 (6.25 * 10^18, or 6.25 billion billion) electrons. One amp represents a rate of electron flow of 1 coulomb of electrons per second, so a 1-farad capacitor can hold 1 amp-second of electrons at 1 volt."

So does an increase in size (uf) mean it stores more charge for the same time, or the same charge for longer? or both?
I assume that the motor draws the current it requires (A) so a larger cap will provide the correct charge for fractionally longer?

So does having a bigger /smaller uf rating do any harm or is it simply the length (time) of the charge available to the motor?

BTW
cpc also do other sizes and the same capacitor and a 15uf is only a few pence dearer

Most electrolytic capacitors have quite a broad tolerance regarding actual capacity. (20% not unusual)

Most motors won't complain about getting a little extra kick from a slightly bigger capacity.

The two important things to consider are:-
1. Working Voltage, higher is better so go for 450 volt rather than 250 if available.
2. Run or Start rated, if in doubt choose Run Rated as it won't overheat if it is subjected to continuous current in run mode.

The only constraint on the above choices is whether it will physically fit,

I, m going to be tottaly thick here lads all off these things are going over the top off my head lol to much
technical stuff for me . As long as I get the same sice off vol and uf it should work

There's tons of them on ebay, I had to get one for my dust extractor, about half the cost on ebay than from Powertoolspares co uk

Ye I checked ebay but with me knot knowing alot about these so I, ve not checked as I said if I knew what bits I, ve got to compare I would get one like that . I was just looking for the same one faconEN60252 450Vac.cl.5050hz
so I was just googleing the same one and didn, t find one
