Back from Japan

Just came back from Japan and I would like to share a few pics.

I was taken to a restaurant near Narita airport and to my surprise the owner was woodworker.
The restaurant is combined with the shop and he is making and selling table tops made of one piece of wood and other things

If you think that your shop is dusty and messy, that's nothing comparing to this guy

Really interesting stuff. Isn't it amazing how a pastime can make you friends and bring people together. We'd love to go to Japan but I doubt we could ever afford it, if we do I think we will look for this guy.

I did not noticed it but now that you mentioned it, it looks like he did move the blade, what you can not see because of the mess is that on the other side he has a slider (a chipboard plate and a stick are on top of the slider).

I have a few chisels (Nomi), pull saws (Nokogiri) and hand plans (Kana) but I'm not using them so much because of my bad hand skills...

At this time of the year, the ticket costs $1000 (round trip) with Lufthansa so we always fly at Jan~Mar.

Well, Feb is suppose to be the coldest month but I think that because of the Global Warming we had 14~17°c all the last 2 weeks.

BTW, in Poland it's now around the 0°c and very little snow while normally it's -20°.

"I want to visit your restaurant and wood shop. Please give me your address" (keep it simple).

I think that it can help if you print the maps so somebody can help you to find it.

Don't even try to compare the prices. Wood is very expensive in Japan.
Those table tops costs $1000~$3000 (but they are beautiful).

I made a coffee table (1200x600) and the wood (Lauan) cost me some $350...

Good to see you back those are terrific pictures and amazing table tops.

And all done in a crowded and not too big a shop from what I could see.

BTW we are also experiencing a very warm winter just South of you, in fact I think UK had more snow than we did this week.
