Hi everyone, Is it just me or is there a problem with with the Axminster web site? Everytime (correction - almost everytime) I try to view 'my basket' the page overlaps with another page and I can't make anything out! It's very frustrating and it's been like that for month now. At first I thought it was just a glitch with the new site format, but as I say it's been like this a long time now. So I'm starting to wonder if it's just me that's having the problem?

Funny you should say that. Last time I spoke to them I complained about the last revision to their site as it had slowed down hugely and the new graphics just hogged CPU.

The guy I spoke to said he would let the systems people know and about three or four days later it seemed to get better! Maybe it was after their revisions for the VAT increase.

So for me, it now seems sorted. I'm using a Mac with Camino browser. It does seem to make a difference depending on the system but I tried it on the wife's Mini - which can use Windoze (yuck)- and it seemed OK there too.

I don't have this problem with any other web site. So I guess it must be something to do with Axminster, but as not everyone has the problem perhaps it's something to do with the way their system interacts with certain operating systems - mine being Windows ultimate 7.

Hi Froggy,

I'm using IE8 and it displays with no problem - what OS/browser/version do you have?

Sean

It's a total nightmare. So much so that I often go elsewhere rather than have my computer 'taken over' by a website.
I have variable speed fans in my box that get quicker as the CPU load increases, a visit to Axminsters site has them screaming at full blast within seconds, the mouse becomes unresponsive for 10-15 seconds and the page just 'freezes' until it done whatever the hell it's trying to do.
If I view the site with No-Script none of that happens but then I can't see stocks levels, prices or options and navigation is difficult.
Not what you expect from a Website.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

OK - I feel better now for that.

Hi Sean/Steve,

I use fiefox and the OS is Windows Ultimate 7. I haven't mentioned before now, but as Steve brought it up, the Axminster site does 'hang' for long periods. It's a shame, because the web site doesn't reflect what is otherwise a good supplier.

I have no problems with the site at all (now - just before Christmas it was having a real bad time with Firefox compatability).

Just to be sure I just clicked through about 30 links at random using variations in product elements, left menu bar etc Nothing took more than 1.5 seconds from click to loaded, most were more like click/think/present...

I then switched browsers to Chrome (from Firefox 3.6.13) and that was the same.

Java 6 v 23 Windows XP and a 4 year old lap top that certainly doesn't have any clever CPU cooling (or a particularly clever CPU either ie I have 4 faster specified machines but tested it on this one.

Do you have Sun Java installed, in case the site is using some java scripts?

Axminster site doesn't require the java plug in, but it does use javascript, which is a completely different thing - most sites use javascript, and it's inherent in your browser unless you choose to switch it off. Javascript can sometimes be a bit resource intensive, especially when you have a site overly using it for bells and whistles. I find some features of the Axminster site a little flaky, especially the search box (Mac running firefox), but generally it's a pretty decent site.
