Lifted straight from Axminster's blurb on this mornings mailshot -
"World renowned for their superb build quality, many Powermatic machines are robustly constructed of cast iron and welded steel."

This would imply to me that many aren't ... or is it just me? :D
Anyway, it's all there if anyone cares to look.

horrible mustard colour on the machines, be warned unless you like colemans

Pfffft. Like that is going to put anyone off! :D

The only colour I wouldn't like my machines to be is Pink.

but my drill press is fabulous darling. :)

the feather bower does rather impede my abilities at times though. :)

Off the top of my head, I seem to recall the Jet badged version of this lathe was circa £3.5K from Axy wasn't it??

If I'm remebering that right then it clearly shows the justification in them moving from Jet to Powermatic because it seems the latter are less greedy, allowing Axy to reduce their price.

They are tremendous lathes incidentally. I've used one really like them.

Don't Powermatic, Jet and Wilton brands come out of the same stable? I think they come from the Walter Meier group owned by Tenex Capital Management.

I've no idea but I guess that would make sense and presumably they have different brands in different markets in that case. However, that means if I'm right about the price differential then it doesn't make any sense ie if the only difference is in the badge and they're all from the same stable ultimately, why would they sell them cheaper as Powermatic versus Jet?

Of course I could just be recalling the price incorrectly but I'm almost sure it was over £3K because before I acquired the Woodfast I was looking at the 2 big Jets - including the model that is the bigger one than this ie the 4 something. That was £4K plus even then which was 2 years ago. it has an integrated vacuum chuck which is a real nice to have for time saving when reversing bowls. I was sure that when the big one was £4K something, the 3520 was £3K something??

Wish I'd kept my last Axy catalogue now!

Still leaves me feeling a bit 'unclean' when I've stool next to them, let alone using one. Mustard, noooooo!

(Nice finish, solid kit though!)

No - I have to be very careful of bad constipation, though. That comes with opiates. I have a large ulcer (about 4 square inches) that at the moment they are stuffing full of a type of iodine putty. The pain that comes from that in the middle of the night is merciless and morphine proof. Half a dozen doses of morphine, half a dozen codeine and a few very large Glenmorangies help, though. :D

Oh mate....that is just not funny is it....you poor sod. When Harry was on opiates which apart from the Morphine was the kiddie version of codeine, called dihydro-codeine, we had to give him sodium Docusate and Senna daily just to keep him regular because it plays havoc as you know.

I never forget on one occasion, post op when he was most dosed up, he was on the throne for 2 hours trying his best! Me and my good lady took turns reading to him etc to keep his spirits up (even sang at one point I seem to recall). Now when he goes in for surgery, I take an arsenal of anti-constipation meds to nip it in the bud before the bunging starts.

Especially if I go to hospital I take laxatives from day one, but at home I make my own muesli because I can control the sugar content as well as the taste, so it's got barley flakes, oats, rye flakes and malted toasted wheat flakes in it (amongst many other things) and eat loads of fruit. A four and half hour spell on a commode educated me quite well in these matters.

Good reading material is essential - I've always got a copy of the festool catalogue next to the bog
