I know it's been done before, but it's worth mentioning again.

Axminster's consistent good service.

Goods ordered yesterday at 3:00 pm - delivered at 9:30 am this morning, all normal free delivery, no specials and add to it that I'm in a remote part of Wales near Aberystwyth, well off the beaten track, so I expect a few days delay with any mail order at the best of times.

I hope Mr Styles reads this - it's great service.

That was a piece of cake, now for the tricky part...... the new web site.........

.

It's great to hear of such consistently great service; I know there are other companies out there who also have good service, it's just a shame that so many don't.

A year or so ago I posted about an event some of the Axminster team were taking part in, a sponsored cycle ride. They've just repeated the 'exercise', if anyone wants to support them here's the link:

It's also worth mentioning that I ordered some nuts and bolts from RS Components at the same time..... arrived half an hour later.... so good on them as well.

Half an hour after ordering or half an hour after the Axy stuff. If the former then that truly is impressive...

Just out of interest Argus, do you have a business account with RS cos it would be quite useful as a normal punter to order stuff from them occasionally? I always thought you had to be a business to order from them, but maybe they have changed their rules?

cheers

Hi Steve

RS will ship to an individual no problem. I get stuff from them but prefer Farnell generally. RS do stock stuff that Farnell don't which is pretty much the only reason I use them as they are pretty expensive.

.

Yes, as Gareth said with regard to RS and Farnell.

At one time RS had a pretty much exclusive selling policy - accounts only. Not a viable trading option in these times. Nowadays they will sell direct via the internet using your plastic.

They are expensive, but the quality is good and as I said, they turn up bang on time - even in remote areas like this one.

RS had the mother of all catalogues in pre-internet times. I thought that Axminster initially modelled their catalogue layout - as did many others - on the RS format.

.

RadioSpares(showing my age here!) certainly did have the mother of all catalogues. We used to use it as a technical reference book where I worked. If you were building/designing something electronic, you'd browse the RS catalogue looking for the right integrated circuit. They also sold/provided a datasheet library, for those times when the info. in the cat. wasn't enough.
We will never see their like again....

.

Yes, John ..... Radio Spares.

They used to have a few shops dotted about, if I remember. There was one in the Hayes Arcade in Cardiff in the 50's / 60's, selling old style thermionic valves and all sorts of electrical stuff.

The guy in there taught me " Billy Brown Ran Out Yelling Grandma's Been Violated, Get White". Never forgot it.

Yellow boxes with red script......

Just for a bit of balance, and for me to whinge, again.
Ordered some stuff from Axminster 3 days ago, paid for next day delivery, still not here. Tis a pain as I needed it this w/e.
Of course it may well (most likely) be RM that have cocked up.

It's probably because you live in "a land far far away" Studders!

They charge extra for Narnia! :D

That could well be it Jim.

Damn, might have to move a little closer to Axminster.

Why not just have the wardrobe shipped to Axminsters office, then they can open one door or two, dependant on parcel size, and chuck it through. Will be less of a rough journey than with R.M.

It's an idea.
Or, move it into their biggest showroom. Wouldn't need to order, or pay, for anything then.
Package did arrive this Morning so I might postpone moving for a bit.

OK, I'm intrigued, what is this a mnemonic for? I can see it's a serries of colours.

Hi Studders,

Sorry for the inconvenience. If you PM me your details I will find out where your order is and what has happened.

Thanks,

Richard, Axminster.

Thanks. It seems so obvious with hindsight, I can't understand why I didn't think about it - especially as I have spent hours many years ago trying to work out what resistor colours were - a real problem as I'm red/green couour blind.

What's remote about Aberystwyth? Lovely place, except for the ruddy shingle beach. The stuff gets in your shoes and between your toes! And last time I was there, I recall the seaweed got pretty thick...

Like you, I never had any complaints with APT, other than I am not over-impressed with the new website!

Regards

John

I find an out of date Axy catalogue is just the right thickness for propping up the leg of my PC desk.

Just another of the 'round tuit' jobs folks! :D

John
