Ive heard theres going to be an birthday event in april for axminister, does anyone know anything about it and is this an annual event, and what usual %% off do they have?

Cant comment on the event but I went to the Axi Nuneaton store on Saturday with a mate and the shelves were bare. They had to scour all the stores for the things I wanted, still waiting for them to be delivered.

Perhaps it definately is a slow boat from China or the weather has prevented it from docking with all the goodies.

I think they have updated the bandsaws, hopefully improved the table/fence etc. for. 2014. So might be waiting on new stock. Whats sort of the most they give off at events ? 10% at best? Probably under water in Devon is it, probably going start stocking workshop scuba gear!

I have struggled with stock the last two times I've been in to store. They've posted out two star knobs to me today which cost less than a pound each...that must have cost them money. I hope they get this sorted soon before the goodwill they've built up is eroded.

Not just the Chinese tat, I went in for some Festool gear & they'd got bugger all, bit of a wasted journey.

High Wycombe seems well enough stocked at the moment.
Only a single item I needed last week was out of stock (although online and their in house system said it should be there), However loosing track of a single Veritas replacement cutting wheel a few mm in diameter and costing a fiver is hardly a show stopper. They sent one on without a shipping charge and it's arrived two days before promised.

WRT to an "Event" maybe 10% off everything for a day and a few specials ???

It could be worth a trip for a 10%. reduction depending on what it is you are buying of course. Having 10% off a couple of star knobs would not make it worth while (obviously) but if it were a £2K machine included in the discount then defo worth a look in.

Perhaps they are saving all of their stock for the "Big Birthday Bash" where they expect a buying frenzy from us the customers.

It also seems to me that the store (Nuneaton) is too big for the amount of stock they hold/offer, even if the shelves were fully loaded. Not really an issue as having space to wander around is nice but surely it would make business sense to have more lines or other brands available?? I'm a bit of a gadget man when it comes to tools so any little shiny sparkly thing that catches my eye would probably end up in my shopping basket while surfing the shelves. Things perhaps that I would not have otherwise bought. Perhaps they should have a chat with the supermarkets and get all the "sweeties" near the check out to tempt us into buying more kit.

I have visited the US on several ocassions and always look out the towns with Rockler and Woodcraft in them, they seem to be about the closest thing to Axminster but the difference being they have so much kit for woodworkers it's untrue. Everthing from, pencils to jigs to machines to timbers and veneers to clothing to books, plans and even a fully loaded workshop where you can undertake various activity under supervision . A one shop stop as it were. Another difference I noted was the staff albeit helpful at Axi don't appear to be woodworkers, just checkout staff?? In the Rockler stores for example the store staff are all enthusiastic woodworkers and happy to chat for ever about woodworking and tools. I know Axi isn't all about WWing but having tools properly set up and tuned would allow the customer to have a hands on experience rather than having parts fall off machines or slop around because they were not properly set up for use. Just a thought.
