Made this Ash form today, 6" tall with a spiralled burnt top. Looks kinda galaxy like :)

Ashes to Ash so to speak johnny, not my personal scene but never the less I appreciate your attempts at control of form and exploration of decorative enhancements.

Proportions look good, does the scrolled cap sit in its own recess.?

I really like the form but I can't make my mind up about the spiralled cap.

Very nice form, very nice top, but not sure if they match though imho.

I'd like to see that spiral on a more rounded top aesthetically, without the hard line between the top and body. (I realise this may make the spiralling impossible/considerably harder, but am showing my naivity when it comes to such techniques! )

Thanks for your replies.

Chas, yes it sits in its own recess.

Wizer, is it because theres a hole in it?

OB, the burnt textured top is to contrast with the smooth pale form as is the raised square rim, if you see what I mean.

Thought it must, would consider a variation of the theme, slightly domed form carrying texturing and use it as a lid with small black knob in centre.

That way contrast texture would be more visible as it sat on shelf etc.

Yes,... I like it 8)

Is it 'solid' JT ? as in.. 'was it hollowed via the hole' ? ... there's no removable lid as such ?

I like it... take me the right way when I say there are subtle 'imperfections' in the galaxy, which for me, enhance it .. I mean the 'arms' that radiate aren't uniformly the same... Its much better the way you have it.

Works for me, Buttoney   8) :D :D :D :D

Thanks Jenx :) It is solid now but the top wasn't in for hollowing  although you can't see it the grain all matches though :D
The tops non uniformity was a slip with the spiralling tool but I liked it too
