Heres summat i haven't made in a long while.
A couple of weeks ago i was asked if i could engrave initials onto a wooden musical ball made from Beech,i was reluctant to do it as the ball was finished and was to be given as a christening gift, but the couple had tried various people and they also refused to do it so i was talked in to doing it,they would take full responsilbility if i messed it up that was made clear to start with.
After some practices and sending images of what i was trying out they like the pyro'd effect so thats what i did and must admit it did look good.
The ball was in a cardboard box and when they picked the ball up which they were very happy with i was asked if i could make a wooden case to present the ball in and this is the result.
They liked the Ash wood idea, good job as thats all i had cut up to use :D
The corners are mitred, the top and bottom just glued straight on finished with sanding sealer and carnuba wax polished on the lathe  and lined with a cream satin.

Very neat, Paul.

Do we get to see the ball, too?
+1 when you apply the wax do you use a smooth cloth or a rough rag like a scouring pad? and do you 'force' the wax on or simply rub it over the surface?

Baldhead

Thanks both :D
Sorry no piccy of the ball :(
BH-I put the hinges on first then removed them, then used the chestnuts buffing wheel to polish the case up while it was in two halves, then put the hinges back on.
