How do you make a "small" screw chuck to turn fruit, I've never done it? Is it as straight forward as driving the desired screw through a chuckable piece of scrap from the back or do you glue as well?

Bob- yes use a screw that has the thread all along to the head,i think i used a 2" x 8 screw,drill a pilot hole in the center in the piece of wood for the chuck you are using countersink it and screw the screw through so its tight,then glue the head into the countersunk hole,then put back in chuck to square/round it up.I just used CA glue which seems to have held fine so far.

My only recommendation to improve them, would be to drill the hole for the stalk at a (more) jaunty angle, so they're not quite so soldier like.

Excellent ! I am speechless! that's the kind of thing that I aspire to, and the reason I got into turning. One day I hope I will be able to turn like that! at the moment me and the skew don't see eye to eye but I'm practicing and entering the forum challenges so I'm moving forward, but still a long way off producing the fruits (pardon the pun) that would be anywhere near the class of that lot.

Solyent- No skew was harmed in the making of these pieces of fruit :lol:
I'm afraid i just don't get on with it so just used my roughing gouge to rough down to rounds,parting tool to make the tenons and parting off and 3/8" bowl gouge for shaping.
