I was bought one of these for Christmas by LOML. :D

Not used as much as I'd like :( but it is very good.:)
I cannot give a comparison to the Tormek as I have never used one. The jigs appear to be interchangeable between the machines, apart from the new truing one (TT50), but a small adaptor is easy to make.
There was a review in Good Wood Working a couple of issues ago and it came out well.

Yep, I've got one. I think it's superb. I really don't think there is much different from the Tormek.

There is a review here

A comparison between Jet and Tormek here

There are videos a the bottom of both these reviews.

Again, I'm pleased with mine. I suspect it is equal to the big Tormek except for the price, which makes it better in my book cos it's a lot cheaper (diamond trueing gadget inclusive).

I always thought that the Tormek and its jigs were patented?

The Jet is virtually a carbon copy!

I've seen the machine and look very alike the Tormek indeed and seems very excellent. I'm buying one in the near future as soon as I need it to sharpening larger blades and gouges.

The Jet and the Scheppach are, I think, manufactured under licence from Tormek.

I don't know about the Scheppach but the JET isn't made by Tormek.

Ike

I didn't say "manufactured by", I said "manufactured under license from", i.e. it is a copy, but they've paid for the right to copy it.

Yes, I read all the Tormek/Jet reviews I could find, and bought the Jet from Axminster a few weeks ago. It's great! Very easy to use, apart from water getting everywhere. I'm told the water is handled better by Jet than Tormek, so the Tormek must be appalling. Useful DVD included as instructions. Now I have to shell out for another couple of jigs, though :(

I cannot let this mis-information pass.

The Tormek is not appalling at controlling water. I haved never had an issue with water control. Simply measured grinding will be enough.

The issue is stone speed which the Tormek is set perfectly for.

The Tormek does not licence to these imitators. They have just copied all the hard work that Tormek have done over the years, that the few patents did not cover. That is business.

Thanks for correcting that - teach me to parrot stuff from the internet!

I suppose there isn't that much patentable about them anyway.

Just bought one of these a few days ago. Mine did not have any of the quality issues identified on one of the links. Superb value for money, tools have never been so sharp and now have more time to spend making rather than maintaining. I am sure that there are many other very good ways of sharpening, but if you are considering a wet system buy the Jet it's a great piece of kit.

sorry, but i have used both. and i still prefer the tormek in all ways. and i have got better results. me personally i give the tormek 2006 ( the big one ) 10/10. i have yet to find anything i cannot sharpen with the tormek. just my veiw
