I spoke to the Robert Sorby factory to find a supplier locally of their chisels and, eventually ended up with their factory outlet, Turners Retreat who offered quick delivery I was given a price - including delivery - of £99.01 for a six piece start starter set - about the same as everywhere else. I gave my card details over the phone and paid the £99.01. When the set arrived a few minutes ago the invoice and receipt were for £109! I had been charged £10 more than I agreed to over the phone when I supplied my card details. I know it's only a tenner, but I'm not very impressed and will be on the phone first thing tomorrow. Interestingly, the price on the box is £109 aswell although the website shows £99. Sorry, grumpy now and wanted a moan.[/i]

Mistakes happen and given that everyone raves about the service from Robert Sorby I'm sure this will be sorted out to your satisfaction.
Mud sticks and it's a shame this has been posted before Turners Retreat have been given a chance to rectify this.
Hopefully it will be done and you'll let us know?

I appreciate mistakes happen, but the point is not everyone might check their receipt and lose out and also, the item is priced at £109 on the front which is just going to add to the confusion. Mistakes happen, I accept that, but not a very good experience for a first time customer. I will of course add any comments they may have when I speak to them to balance this out.

Terry,

I don't agree that 'it is a shame this has been posted here before they have their say etc'. Even if it is a mistake, I'm trying to help others who might not check the invoice - I don't suppose everyone does - and I am fully entitled to pass comment if I have had a bad experience.

HI

I use Turners Retreat quite a lot and have found them very reliable and honest.

Looking at their new catalogue the price of the set is now £109 but as you said the price on the web is £99.01. So it looks like they havent updated the website yet, so it looks like a honest mistake.

However as it is advertised on the web at £99.01 and that is the price you were quoted I am sure they will refund the difference, it will be interesting to hear what they say.

By the way did you get the free DVD?

hi rob,i am just a customer too, what i do know is fri,sat ( yesteday & today ) the shop is closed as they are moving premises. i know its not an excuse but if i know them they will sort it no problem. ask for dave, or amanda.

Ditto! Never known anything other than good customer service from them.

Just a shame we only hear about the bad comments, wonder how many good service points they would get, if just the forum members were to vote.

No offence intended Ron, just my experience from over a few years dealing with them, and I agree whole heartedly that we are all entitled to say what we think about a situation.

Far end of the spectrum, but I bought a pencil kit which was broken when I got it - they replaced it FOC with no question - I have also found them to be very helpful on other questions I have asked!

Hope you get it sorted!

Dave

Hi all

I am also a regular customer of Turners Retreat both on the web and in person, (as I live only about 40 miles fron them it makes a nice saturday afternoon ride out.) A couple of times I have had problems with pen kits from them, but they have been only too helpful to correct anything I have contacted them about. I would recomend them too anyone.

I have used them quite a bit, on-line and in person since they are about 45 mins south of home - nice place to visit, good service, good value (I didn't pay a huge price for the Sorby sharpener for instance) ... somewhere I'll go back too ... I suspect this is a mistake that they'll rectify rapidly ... certainly that's the impressions I've had from them on a number of occasions.

Cheers

Toby

Well, when I rang they offered a refund of the excess but no explanation as to why it had happened. Listened to everyone else's experiences, and mistakes happen, I suppose, so I'll have see if I ever use them again.
