I had a gastroscopy but it is quite some time ago. They just pushed down the hose. Certainly without sedation as I remember getting upp and clearing my throat to thank the nurse and then I walked away burping but otherwise like nothing had happened.
I don't remember any throat spray but I am not sure about thast detail.
It wasn't that bad after all. The worst part was the sore throat I got afterwards.
Certainly far from enjoyable but if there was a good reason to do it again I would let them do it the same way.
What I do remember was a very matter-of-factly assisting nurse who kept telling me for every step what the doctor was doing and what he found. For her it was just plain routine. Another gastroscopy another day on the job and somehow that attitude rubbed off onto me. As I knew minute by minute what was going on I felt safe and could focus on doing my part of the team effort.
The best sedation anyone can get.
