Right thats it!!! Finally well and truly fed up with my Record pt260. Would love the Jet PT310 but just can't afford it at the moment. The record is fine as a thicknesser but crap as a surfacer and jointer. Was thinking I'll keep the record just set up as a thicknesser and go for one of these.

Anyone got one?

I have the next one up, the 54A with longer tables. It is a dream - cast iron rules!!! :D
You will be shocked how much nicer it is,
Philly :D

I cannot comment on the machine your looking at, but I am using the same idea.
I have one of the old Perform planner thicknessers and now use it just for thicknessing, I bought an old Multico planner, as Philly says cast iron rules. Long solid tables make a huge difference in using the machine.

I don't want to come across as a hawk but.....
I am selling a lyndhurts 6inch jointer with 1500mm long tables with cast iron fence. Its basically a copy of the jet version. I have had it 1 1/2years it is mint condition. However as i moving house it has to go. I would happy for £150.00 if you or anyone else is interested.
It has been one my best purchasers and I have given it very light use. PM me if you are interested, i can assure you it will not disapoint if you are happy to collect.

150mm seems a little wee? Why don't you keep you eye out for an older but wider machine on ebay?

That's an interesting point WiZeR and it's something I've considered previously when buying my planer-thicknessers as well. If I'm being honest though, I can't remember the last time I face and edged anything larger than 6", let alone 10"! :)

I agree with OPJ. To be honnest whenever I have tried to use boards of more than 6 inches I have encountered cupping problems. Sometimes thats just been through laziness like making a bookshelf 8 inches wide out of one board rather than making it out of 2 and alternating the growth rings. With a 6 inch planer it would force me to do a better job in the first place. I need that sort of a kick up the backside sometimes.

I've got a 6 inch Wadkin, (which must go shortly) and only once has the width been a problem.

Roy.

I have a Grizzly 6" cast iron jointer and an Elu P/T and use each seperately. It takes up more room in the workshop but I think it is worth it for the convenience it gives. I too have hardly had any instance to surface anything wider than 6".

And after my experience with the Metabo PT, (see other post) I'm sticking to separates as well.

Roy.

I have sent again please check sorry for my general level of incompetance.
