would it be worth the trip to harrogate for me this weekend to buy a bowl gouge and a chuck cheaper, or are they just the same as the shop prices..

Anyone going???

Had a flyer sent from Record advertising `special show only prices` on opening it found most items same price they have been for months. Was hoping for a good deal on Friday but not too sure now.

I'm going Friday, am not expecting anything much such as deals on tools, but it would be nice to be surprised! Suppose it all depends how much the dealers want to sell their stuff.

This will be my first show this year, I gave up on the rest. Got sick of seeing stalls selling window cloths, and gimmicks like that. Will see how Harrogate is tomorrow then decide whether I will bother next year or not.

Hi Tam
Yes I`m wondering now if Friday is the best day to go??. As I`m after a new lathe maybe Sunday would have been better if the dealers have had a slow time of it and want to shift some stuff :? . Its the only day I can go so we`ll see.

Hi Steve.

In my experience if you go on Friday you may be able to buy a demo lathe they will be using over the weekend. You used to be able to get quite a bit off, but you had to leave it at the show until it closed.

At the same time I am not going with the intention of buying anything in particular, just browsing. Yet if you have a specific lathe in mind, you should ring up different dealers and see who can give you the best deal. After all your not desperate, and you have the cash, make them work for it  , there should be some deals around in the next few months. I would bet cash on it.
