I am looking for a couple of bits of nice light wood, probably maple or sycamore (didn't want to use ash on this). I am making a small box from cherry and need a lid and a lining for the inside. I am looking for a couple of pieces, the lid needs to be about 280 x 220 and at least 15mm thick. The lining needs to be about 1000 x 110 and about 6mm thick, this will be cut into 4 pieces.

Does anybody have any such material that they would be willing to sell?

Bob

I have a fair few bits that i would send to you for the cost of postage. Or if you are passing Nottingham you could collect. The maple I have is about 40mm thick and upto 350mm in length and variable width.

Thank you very much for your kind offer. I will gladly take some pieces from you although I do not expect you to give them away. Unfortunately I don't think I shall be coming to Nottingham any time, although its only an hour away. Its possible, and its the weekend, hmmmmm.

I will send you a PM with my address on. Perhaps you could reply with the cost and how you would like me to pay you.

Thanks again

I would just like to record my thanks to Owen for the pieces of maple. A mate picked them up and dropped them down to me today. 5 lumps of maple! Far more than I hoped for and he would not accept payment for it.

So, thanks again Owen, it is much appreciated .

That's what it's all about 8) , well done Owen.
I have a similar tale to tell, Andrew(Power tool) has
travelled up to me 3 or 4 times to bring me spare tools
(when my shed was burgled) and lot's of lovely logs
for turning also some sheets of m.d.f. with one side
faced with melamine. These will be made into a sharpening
station in time, he's also visiting this weekend to bring
some pen blanks and the "badge" :D Can't wait.
There are other similar tales like this all through
the different w/working forums on the Internet
(as well as this one) which makes me think being
a woodworker is a special thing.
Sorry for the hijack Bob.

Ahh I could have sent you some nice Western Red Cedar. Lovely scented wood!

There would be enough to line a box!

Still next time maybe.

Regards

I would love some Western Red Cedar if you have any that you don't want. I will send you a pm tomorrow and we can work out what you want for it. I have a few more boxes to make so it will not go to waste.

This forum is a great place for sharing, and not just ideas. Long may it continue.
