its beech- but i suspect it's from near the root or possibly a crotch as there seems to be allot of patterns in the grain.

I once turned a few pieces of sycamore that looked exactly like this, so I'm sorry to disagree, but my money's on sycamore.

Cheers

Lovely looking piece od wood Dave and nicely turned showing the grain to best effect :D
Looking at the underneath piccy i would say that it is Beech.
You can just see the small darker pinky flecks that you get in Beech.
Top piccy does look like Sycamore with the growth rings.

Hi Deejay,
Sorry, don't know what wood it is, but it looks super and you have done it justice with your turning.

Malc :D

Thanks for the replies.

Aled - Hadn't thought of Sycamore but I know what you mean.

It didn't cut like any Sycamore I've done before and it is more pink than yellow in colour. Hard to tell from photo's.

I started to turn another bit of it and this popped out.

The bark on the inside fits with Cornucopia's suggestion of crotch wood. I'll whack some glue in before I take off any more and post pic's otf the results.

Cheers

Dave
