Hi all,
I am getting really fed up of nuisance calls. I can't tell the caller what I think of him/her because the calls are increasinbly recorded announcements.
So does anyone have any experience of call blockng machines? I have read online reviews but all have negative aspects so I thought forum members could help. Any bad experiences would be useful too.

Truecall machine. Absolutely 110% fantastic. I considered writing a review about it here, but thought it a little too unrelated. You need caller i.d for it to work. You can choose individually what happens to certain numbers. For example witheld numbers could be sent straight to answerphone- you could also set it not to ring, so you're not disturbed. The odd telesales call that slips through now (not witheld) I just press the hash key and there automatically told to 'do one' and their numbers added to the 'zap/block list' It's a truly awesome piece of kit, my only niggle is that I didn't get one sooner !!! I use to get anything from 3-5 nuisance calls a day. Now it's down to maybe one a month, if that- that gets the #zap treatment aswell [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH]

I have just got rid of my landline.. what's the point? + it's insanely expensive to even call from it,

Thank you Coley.
We are tied to a land line because mobile phone signal in our area is so poor. It is a case of taking the phone outside and wandering around waving the thing about to find the best location, and even then being lucky to get one bar. For incoming calls of course it is totally hopeless.

Coley,

As I understand it NHS & Banks use withheld nos so hospital/GP and Banks can't contact you.
I've looked at what you have and this stopped me.

Yeah that's true. When you initially set it up you can choose what each type of number does. For this reason I set it so witheld numbers go straight to answerphone, atleast if its important they'll leave a message. There's other options where you can set it so the caller has to press a number to be connected, or to leave a small message that says there reason for calling before you choose to accept or reject the call.
One thing you would need to do is use truecalls answerphone and not the phones- this may or may not be a factor to consider.

My experience is that neither Banks nor NHS will leave a message on an answer phone. Of course being a withheld number means that you cannot block that individual number.

This is the basic setup page showing the options for how to handle calls [WINKING FACE]
Brian I've had my bank leave answerphone messages when I've been out.

I'm sure there are other blockers available. This one ticks all the box's for my needs

We use a BT call blocking phone, (true-call?) anyone not in the 'phone book' has the option to announce who they are in response to a message from the 'phone and we have the option to accept or deny, add to the 'phone book' straight away or later.

Doctors and Hospitals have had no problem getting through to us so far. (think this may depend upon whether you having withheld numbers automatically blocked.)

No recorded messages or cold callers since it's been in use, the logs can show up to half a dozen that don't get connected in a day.

Does need caller ID but that's free with 12 months line rental commitment.

We also use a call-blocking BT8500 phone - seems to be BT8600 now, not sure what the updates are: https://www.shop.bt.com/products/bt8600 ... -BV9X.html

It has the Truecall system built in, but the best bit is announced calls. When a caller calls, they are answered by the phone which asks for their name - our phone does not ring until they have given a name, so for non-human callers, or for anyone who doesn't respond to the challenge, the phone doesn't even ring. Anyone in the phone book gets through, and any individual number can be blocked or allowed. Numbers can also be blocked by type.

We were getting a recorded message informing us of free oil boilers to people on benefit. It was every day. Today it was four times and that is not funny. Dialling 1471 gets us the number but it is 10 digits and UK numbers are 11. Also it changes each time so I would not be able to block it. I like the idea of caller announcinv theif name though. I read reviews of the BT phone and some said the sound quality was awful. Don't know which system to go for at the moment.

The sound on ours is fine. We have them round the house, and one out in the detached garage, and they all work fine. You wouldn't even have the phone ring with any of those recorded message calls.

We have had great results with CPR callblocker. Just look it up there are several different models.
