From what I can make out Graham, most people (agreed, not all) can copy the sound of a particular note if they listen carefully then try copying it themselves. It may take several tries if it's an "awkward" note though. But it seems the more one practises the easier it becomes - like so much else.

But there are some who cannot do it at all for some reason, and there are of course deaf people - though how Beethoven managed to go on composing after becoming totally deaf I just can't imagine.

Thanks for the links.

P.S. Serous Q: What's Autotune please? I must be ignorant, I've never heard of it.

Autotune is an electronic system which will alter the recorded pitch of a voice to fit the scale. You sometimes get a weird warbling/yodelling effect but the notes will be spot on!
You hear it a lot with seriously cra|ppy pop music.

I have to say I've never really had an interest in singing myself, so have never put any effort into trying. I doubt I'd be any good, when it comes to a communal sing in a church or whatever I mime, or just don't bother.....However, I am quite good at sharpening.

OK mate, each to his own. In my eyes my tools are sharp (ish) but we're not going there, are we? :D
