Where are you going to put it by the way? With all the wood that you have (had) you aren't going to have room for a bash or are you going to blank it all up and sell on Ebay....

Pete

Perhaps there's going to be a timber stall at Pauls house for the bash ? :-$

Now theres an idea Andrew :D

Managed to get an half hour on the lathe this afternoon and quickly turned a piece of the wood.If it is of any help :? It as had no sanding or finish applied.
It turns very nice, probably because it is wet. There are markings in it that look as if it as been scorched but this is in the wood.

What finish did you put on your piece C
If i've got the same finish i will put some on my piece to see if the colour goes the sameish.
Mine at the moment looks a lot lighter in colour.

Looks like Acacia to me as well. I had some from a tree in an aunties garden. This tree had a preservation order on and they had been dealing with a knowledgeable tree surgeon and the local council and so sure of the tree being acacia.
Your piece looks the same timber in grain structure, colour etc. and the knot in the bottom looks very familiar. I didn't work very much but it was a lovely timber, straight grained and easy to cut and plane. I think it would have been a great timber to make furniture from but the pieces I had were cut into logs for the fire before I saw them! Turned OK and finished well. It reminded me in some ways of ash.

I agree it could be acacia/false acacia, but the pieces of that that I have used from several sources had a very definite yellow colour when fresh. Then as it aged on exposure to air, it went a quite rich brown. But can't suggest a plausible alternative ID.
