Yet another newbie signing up after a couple of years browsing the forum.
I’m just a hobby woodworker having taken it up after I retired a few years ago. Regrettably, my woodworking experience in this time has been limited as far as furniture making is concerned - a radiator cabinet, bedside table, some cabinet doors for my “workshop” and a kitchen, some Versailles planters and some accessories for my grandsons’ wooden train sets. Instead, I seem to spend my time doing house renovation for my children e.g. machining up and fitting skirting boards, architraves, panelling and the like as well as fitting new doors, shelving, laminate floors etc. However, upcoming projects are a couple of small wardrobes, some more planters and some more train set accessories. My problem, as mentioned by another forum member, is that I can spend hours planning what I am going to do but never getting round to it!
Kit wise, most of mine is ”hobby” stuff from Axminster but I do have a Triton Workcentre fitted with a Makita saw and a Triton router table fitted with a Bosch GOF2000; this last rarely gets a mention on these pages but it certainly ticks a few boxes for power, the ability to disable the plunge action for use in the router table and the ease of clicking in guide bushes. For hand held routing, I’ve got a Trend T5, not state of the art perhaps but a good old fashioned reliable workhorse.
Finally, to answer questions that seem to arise frequently on the forum
Yes, I have bought Steve Maskery’s bandsaw DVDs – 10/10
Yes, I have bought my bandsaw blades from Tuffsaws – 10/10 again
No, I do not wish to participate in any discussion about sharpening. The last time I followed a thread on the subject, I had nearly lost the will to live by the end of page gazillion. I decided that I had neither the time nor the money to decide for myself which of the various options was the best and will carry on a I have in the past even if I can’t shave with my chisels etc
