Whilst in Germany late last November I revealed some frustration at not finding a set of chuck jawsat Penny Farthing Tools

A certain member name Scott offered help

A few PM’s latter and I am told on Jan 08 to watch out for the postie.

Well today was the day, so from Léaz in southern France, via a cruise on a Motor Vessel and Heysham Lancs the doorbell rings and a young postie (f) struggling to hold this little item says it's a heavey one.

Not only the Jaws I was searching for but a Complete Chuck assembly, as far as I can see through the preservative grease, unused.

THANK YOU SCOTT, Hope there is still some snow left at Chamonix for your Snow Boarding next time your home.

High mel,

Yes it's for my 9 X20 Clone which came with only internal jaws (multiple previous owners)

Sorry but previous owner of the machine has already laid claim to the 'surplus' which I think will be the original chuck as this one has cleaned up to a point that I can't tell if it has ever been fitted to a Back Plate. Yet to decide whether to fit this chuck to existing Back Plate or machine another one up specifically for this chuck.

Fortunately the spindle thread of 1 1/2" X 8 TPI is the same thread as the Boxford 41/2" etc. so backplates are easier to source and/or screwcut than the more common metric M39 X 4 for these chinese lathes.

Come on Own Up :!: Who pinched the Spell Checker :?:

Nice one Scott \:D/
Glad it's not just me missing the spell checker  Maybe they have decided we are all old enough now and don't need it

Just to show it's not all one-sided ....

Chas asked if he might return the favour and I suggested he might turn a pencil pot for my bench to save me using (and knocking over & breaking) the two jam jars I currently use. Here's what showed up today:

Unfortunately the pic doesn't do them justice. Fantastic work and beautifully finished. I'm well chuffed! Thanks a million Chas! :D \:D/ =D>

For the record, LEFT is Cherry, FRONT is Padauk Lid over Silver Birch and REAR is Beech, Walnut & Ash

Well I finally got round to Turning up a new Backplate for the Chuck to suit my metal lathe arbor.

And now here it is in all its glory.

Once more, Thanks again Scott

You're welcome Chas! Looks like it cleaned up OK. Happy turning! :D

I think I've said it before, but this forum really does have some 'good eggs' on it :)

How I wish some of the few others that I frequent were the same. If you really want to see what a mess the world is getting itself into just log in to some of them. :x

On the other hand, if you want to keep your blood pressure under control don't bother, just stay with UKW :D :D :D
