Hi all,
Bought this little marvel of engineering, any info very welcome. Its a Howkins Model B.
Howkins-Model-B.jpg

The plane has only one blade which has been twisted to give a skew but it looks like it would take almost any straight small plough iron.
Regards
Martin

Hi Martin

Loks like a good one. dont have any info on them, like the look of the pivoting depth adjuster.

All the best
Neil

There is a blurb about it in the Hack's Handplane book.

Sorry about the quality of this but here is the included picture. I'm jealous. Its looks like a nice and unique plane.

English cast-iron plow planes are uncommon, but none is more unusual than this Howkins model C, made c. 1920 and designed to cut curved grooves, at angles, or even with dovetailed sides. So few were made that the original label and instructions were hand written at the factory.

Ah, so it was you who bought it... Evidentally you failed to check the Boat Anchor Shrine wherein you'll find a link to a fairly comprehensive article on them. [-X  There's also a page on it in the 1935 Buck & Hickman catalogue - scan here courtesy of Rose Antique Tools.

Somebody's watching eBay a little closely... :D

I thought you didn't "do" eBay, Alf, or is a self-directed Xmas gift in the offing... ?

You're right, I don't do Ebay but someone sent me the link. I'm always in two minds whether to thank folks who do that, or curse them.

Cheers, Alf

Alf,
I thought that the Howkins would not have escaped your all seeing beady eye!
All I need now are some irons and the tool holder, you haven't got some in a drawer somewhere have you..?

Yeah, but unfortunately all the new-in-box Norris infill planes are piled on top so I can't get to them. #-o Sigh; what can you do?
