Do you have a handy Tool or piece of Equipment that has a little niggle built in?

My current expletive generating tool is the simple Moisture Indicator from Axminster:

More than adequate in Indicated Moisture for my needs in assessing wood for turning.

The Niggle(s).

It has an easy use "Press On" -- "Press Off" Button on the case.

1. It has no indication that it is on other than shorting the prongs, that is unless the battery is low when it lights up like a Xmas tree.

2. How do you carry the ***!!*** thing around with you without flattening the battery.

Put it in a pocket or keep it in the car glove box so that you have it to hand when traveling and you can be sure that the battery will be flat next time you press the button. Even putting it on the workshop shelf can fall foul of something else resting against or on the button.

Taking the battery out whilst transporting it around or making a Bespoke Container for a "Pocket sized" hand held tool just does not produce contentment.

Handy little gizmo though. I bought mine from China for much less than the Axminster price together with a laser indirect reading tachometer - again at a budget price.

EDIT: I usually remove my batteries since, unless there is a physical switch, there is a finite, albeit small, current drain on the battery to power the power-on circuitry. No scientific reason..probably only takes picoamps.

The tool that I find really annoying is the recently introduced, Black & Decker battery powered tape measure. It was bought for me as a gift. The idea is good but in practice it's so irritating I don't use it. It's too big. With the batteries in it's too heavy. As the tape is feeding itself out it sounds like it's having a heart attack and it's not going to make it. But on the way back it comes at you with such force it nearly takes your hand off. I just don't need the sort of aggravation it provides

Cheers

Paul
