So after my first candlestick the gauntlet was thrown down to make a partner for it. This proved to be somewhat challenging! Firstly there wasn't REALLY enough wood, so the second one was going to be even more rustic. This was also my first planned piece, having to copy another was VERY hard and took 10 times longer then the first. Then right at the end I had a dig in  super mad at myself. Still here they are. I think I got pretty close.

I reckon you've done pretty darn well there, Matt ....
Fantastic Job, there's a lot to be very proud of in that pair ! 8)

Main thing - is the missus impressed ?
 :D

Brilliant Mate, you've done what many are 'feart' of, me included .. a 'copy job', and you've done it well !

First class ! 8) 8) 8) 8)

They look like they match very nicely Matt.
Did the dig in occur when you thought " i`ll just take a little off there & it will be finished"? It always happens to me like that  Always at the end, never at the start when it wouldn`t matter

That's pretty good work for your first attempt to copy something - especially if you had to squeeze the second one out of not quite enough wood! I like the "rustic" effect you've achieved.

Like Doug, I usually find any dig-ins occur at the end of a job - and the more exciting/expensive the wood and the more pleased I am with the shape of piece the more likely they are to occur :-(

Mornin; Matt.

You done good there, very, very good match IMO. Top work for a first attempt.

Well you've all struck the nail on the head! No digs for the whole of the first one and the second one...untill I decided that the shape of the top wasn't quite right (it wasn't either) ..I knew I was going to post it up so
decided just one more little bit just here........DAMN

VERY annoyed!

Still the wife is pleased and seems to be genuinely impressed.

Now to find some more wood and have another go!

Thanks for all your kind words, the the encouragement makes a real difference as does the pressure of posting stuff up! Makes me try harder!

IMHO Making 12 or more of anything is really hard. I suspect that many turners, like me. push the 'each piece is unique' angle because it is so much more difficult to make 2 of something. You have nothing to worry about with this pair as the differences are in the natural aspect of the wood and, for me at least, that is acceptable. Certainly a better match than anything i have attempted.

(And the 'rustic look' is great  )
