Just had a look in a ''#ark #ilkinson'' showroom. I'm not an expert but I wasn't that inpressed with the quality. It was just little things like doors wasn't flush with the faceframe and the gaps around the doors wasn't equal. And as for the prices!! Am I not in the real world or is it for the people who shop in Harrods for a can of Heinz baked beans when they could get it at half the price at the local supermarket. Please correct me if am wrong

You don't move in the right circles. I went to look at a job today for a designer that I sometimes fit for, Arranged to meet at the house opposite where the kitchen is just being finished off, bill came to a bit over £100k, we then went over to the neighbours house to measure up, this will be in the region of £30k and thats just the breakfast room!!

She gets quite a few jobs from people who have also had quotes from the likes of M.W. but are not happy with their way of dealing with people. The different door gaps could be put down to expansion & contraction of the solid wood doors in the face frames :wink:

A few years back I did a quiet bit of work for Colefax and Fowler one of the top designers in the world at the time they were doing work for people like the crown prince of Saudi Arabia.

When you work for people like that they just don't care what things cost as long as its right. The amount of times I have seen things ripped out and skipped just because the client changed their mind

While working in London once I popped into the most famous of the posh kitchen shops (no names mentioned) and I thought their stuff was very ordinary considering the price.

three items of furiture that i made were delivered today. they were a side table,dining table and a corner unit all in oak. the client supplied some hand made wax for them.
they were for a holiday let cottage!
some people have more money than they know what to do with.
