Almond wood

My elderly mother, bless her soul, is still switch on enough that when she heard that her neighbour had taken down an almond tree today, she asked him to drop all the usable wood off with her if he didn't want it so she could have it for her fire (that was the sympathy bit she said). She then phoned me and said is it any good for turning.

On the basis that any hardwood is good for turning I said yes and it was worth the couple of hours round trip to collect it - and of course being the dutiful son, do some chores for her.

Anyway - is it any good for turning ? I suspect being a fruit wood it may have to have a long slow drying time. Anything else of note about it?

Hello,

Almond is a beautiful wood. It is hard, heavy, with a yellowish brown sapwood, and dark goldenbrown heartwood. Similar to rosewoods in many respects.
