Thanks, there's one round the corner, might pop round and cheer myself up. Their cashew nuts are good too!

Some of these look like good deals. I've just subscribed to their newsletter system hopefully to get early warnings of the next offers. There's a link at the bottom of their special offers page.

Great, I bought some years ago form Lidl. They have been much abused and the glass on the display has been broken and mostly fallen out, but they work just fine. The ones I bought I think where British made as well

WOW...those calipers are a real bargain!

Accurate up to 1/150th of a millimeter!

Better not let the cashier pack them with your eggs!

One hundredth of a mil. or half a thou. as far as I can see.

Although there is an important distinction between accuracy and resolution......

Fine for woodworking though and at that price..a steal!

Oh...and great for plumbing too!

FYI...some of these Chiwanese gauges have a port under the battery cover which allows you to remote the display...great for things like planers and tablesaws...I think there was a thread about how to do that around here somewhere but darned if I can find it!

It goes out to 150mm - 6"
The written description says 1/100th mm.
Their description on the drawing is wrong - it doesn't read to six digits.

Exactly.

And why anyone would want to measure a pipe diameter to any resolution is beyond me...it's a standard size thing!

It always makes me have a little giggle when I see these ads.

Still...there's no getting away from the fact that it's a bargain for a cheap digital device...Maplin usually sell these for about a tenner when they have their sales...but I guess ALDI have the volume price breaks.

We tend to buy these cheap callipers in bulk at work for distribution on the shop floor. For my sins I am a calibration technician and it's my job to measure these then issue a certificate of calibration on an annual basis. The British standard for vernier callipers up to 150mm is an accuracy of +/-0.02 (20 microns) and out of hundreds calibrated I have never had one fail unless it had been subjected to physical abuse.
