Air filtration system question...

Right,

If you put one of these jet air filtration systems after the exhaust of your DE system, something like thisSIP D.E system then would it effectively cut out a massive amount of the >5 micron & >1 micron sized particles out of the air in the 'shop?

Just wondering because it would obviously be a very easy thing to install, and would, I imagine be pretty effective. I've already got the JET Air Filtration Device hung up on the ceiling, and I think it's doing what it's supposed to.

Also, are there devices that can measure the amount of particles/ and what size they are in the air? If so, and they are not worth getting for just one user, we could all chip in some money, and then whenever anyone needs it they can just ask and it'll get posted off to them. Just an idea.

There is a body of opinion out there which suggests that the in-shop turbulence caused by these units cause more 'micro-dust' to be suspended in the air than it cleans out. I concur with this opinion.
In passing I view the SIP product you link to as a chip collection unit and not a dust extraction unit.

As you know there is vast difference between chip collection and dust extraction: the makers are only slowly admitting this.

The ideal situation in my view is that if you can at all vent the air that passes through the chip collector filter to the outside.

Yes its an issue if you are heating the shop so perhaps look at an easily accessible heat exchange unit and change the filters regularly.

The easy access bit is important as if the unit is not so the filters dont get changed: this is a big issue with MHRV systems in the domestic space.

sorry about that link to the SIP chip collector, I meant to add this Axminster one here (they're next to each other in my bookmarks) I see what you're saying after a few of those articles mentioned, and more. So are they only really good for clearing the 'shop when you've finished for the day, ready for the next day? Then the Oneida systems seem to be the one's to go for.

I might just go ahead and buy a full cyclone system when I've got the money, like this Axy one here. I've heard there are better ones, but I like the fact that they're U.K based and have excellent customer support.
