Air Filters....again

Hi Guys

I was given an air filter and I have been running it in my workshop for a few months. It's not a brand name I'm familiar with and I wondered if anyone can tell me if it's worth keeping or if I should upgrade. Here are the specs of it:

I just vacuumed out the filters and it does seem to be collecting dust so I guess it's better than nothing?

Hi Tom,
dont now if this will help make up your mind but I have the Jet AFS500 and just checked the Axi site for some specs, as follows:

low speed = 360m3/hr
mid speed = 480 m3/hr
high speed = 600m3/hr

wouldnt have a clue if the capacities are close or way off, but like you said anything is better than nothing, if its collecting dust its worth keeping.

50 cubic_feet_per_minute => 84.9 cubic_meters_per_hour

So it's basically massively underpowered. Thanks, at least I know it needs upgrading. It's very lightweight so I can continue to place on the lathe bed when I'm sanding and hopefully between it and the extractor (and the airace) it'll be effective.

Tom,
As you say massively underpowered for a whole workshop, but would it not be suitable for around your lathe, as the heavy stuff would naturally fall, it would collect the smaller airbourne dust even if it was only locally.

yep exactly as I'm doing now anyway. I set up that and the extractor. I'd still like a proper one so that I don't have to wear my respirator every second I'm in the workshop tho.

It's actually 240v, I got those specs of t'internet

The plate on the back says: 240v .27 A 50Hz

I found thisfan on eBay. A bit of digging tells me that it shifts 714m3/hr and is normally used by those naughty cannabis growers. It's listed at $40 with £35 delivery but hopefully I can pick up as it's local-ish.

Can anyone point out a reason why this would not be suitible to mount in a box with the MTM filters like DaveL did ? The only thing that strikes me is that it's only 6" ? I was expecting it to have to be bigger.

That looks like it should work, might be a bit louder than a bigger fan as it must rev faster to move the volume of air. You could extend the housing to act as a silencer if it is too loud.

cheers Dave, I have seen it referred to as "quiet" so hopefully it is. Would it be simple to fit some sort of speed control? Would be nice to have it on a slower setting when I'm not doing anything dusty and then ramp it up when I am. A run on feature would be a bonus.
