Hi, I have a draper wlt 100 lathe and am looking to buy a decent chuck. From what I’ve read on here, perhaps the best bet is to bite the bullet and buy the Axminster sk114 (for more money than my latte and bag of chisels cost!!). So I have a few questions.
The thread on the lathe is 3/4” x16tpi. Is there any disadvantage in using a thread adapter, or am I better off looking for a chuck that mum patches my thread?
Is there a cheaper option that is similar quality?
Does anyone have a second hand chuck they want to sell me?
Thanks

This is a lot cheaper, what are the disadvantages?

I have had one of those for years, no problems with it and plenty of jaws available.
Mine is on an insert, which adds perhaps 8mm to the length. Some would argue it adds more potential for misalignment but in real terms it's negligible.

The record or the Axminster?

I have had an SC4 for several years and no problems.

Using an insert should not be an issue - the alternative is one with a 3/4" thread which would likely be rendered obsolete if at any time the lathe was upgraded.
