I'm making a grand bird table which will have a round conical-shaped roof which I want to cover with cedar shingle tiles. I suppose I could buy full size and cut down but I expect they are too thick and there would be plenty of wastage through the P?T. Ideas or advice appreciated. I expect each tile would be about 10mm thick and about 80mm x 60mm (very roughly).

Machine up some cedar to 60x15, then cut into 80mm lengths, make a simple wedge cutting jig for the bandsaw and cut them into two tapering from 10mm - 5mm. Fit them sawn side to the roof.

Though 10mm sounds a bit thick for that size, I would go for 6mm down to 3mm

Now that is a dilemma...however....
If you are looking at wooden shingles then I think you should look at, 'Feather board'
They are lengths of timber tapered along the width.
You can cut them to whatever length you want.
I bought some from a sawmill, treated, but B&Q or wicks or ..sell them in packs..can't remember which store.
Good luck
