I've mislaid this lead and wondered if anyone had one or an adapter that they don't need?

The router socket has an ethernet style socket and the microfilter has the smaller (RJ45) socket.

many thanks

Roger

Roger, most electrical/elelectronic shops them for just a few quid, I even noticed the larger Tescos do.

providing you get the correct plug on each end, they are all the same internal configuration.

Are you sure? Compare and contrast http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RJ11,_RJ14,_RJ25 with what I think you are incorrectly referring to as RJ45 (don't worry, everyone else, including myself calls it RJ45, but it's not...) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8P8C

As a nerdy aside, registered jack connectors are referred to as e.g.: 6P6C (six position, six conductor) or 8P8C (eight position, eight conductor) And how they are wired up gives them their RJ number, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Registered_jack

For example, an RJ11 lead is 6P4C, with the two central conductors actually connected.

Router/Modem to microfilter leads are usually RJ11's, certainly mine here is. If that's what you need I have one spare I can send you.

Roger,

As bodgetmatic quite rightly says... You're probably after an RJ11 to RJ11 cable - These cables come in two different flavours... straight-through or rollover (where the two ends are wired the opposite way around).

I've got spare cables coming out the wazoo... What brand of router is it? If you are right about it being Rj45 at one end and RJ11 at the other, I can custom make you a cable since I've got all the right tools for the job.

PM me a postal address and let me know what you want.

I have one and i am testing it by sending this post please PM with delivery details.
I am useing a netgear router and filter the plugs are the same on each end of the cable.

Thanks guys.

Physically the two connectors at each end are different in size...The router (a Netgear) has the larger connector.....same physical size as the four ethernet ports.

The microfilter has a smaller connector (like a US telephone plug).

Does that make sense?

Roger

Have you had any luck? If not, let me know the make\model of the router. I will no doubt have one lying about - can always stick it in the post, gratis.

Many thanks, everyone, for the suggestions and offers of help.

I tried a few cables that were RJ11 at each end but couldn't get the router (Netgear DG834) to work (in hindsight I may not have given it enough time).

Toddled down to Maplins for a cable and/or adapter but drew a blank. So I threw caution to the wind and took the easy option and came away with a new router

The Maplin chap asked me if I knew which routers were recommended by my ISP as not all routers worked with all ISP's (which is a new one on me).

Anyway, all working fine. Just need to connect up the webcam in the cottage. That way when I fall off a ladder one of you guys can call the paramedics!

I do have a nagging doubt that the first router tried may have been 'broken'...seem to remember swapping out a router at home a year or so ago and so apologies for any red-herrings possibly caused by that.
