If the coatings don’t work. Take the parts to a company that have grit blasting machines. They can show you what the surfaces look and feel like with the different abrasives. Be warned that done improperly the parts will warp. After the surfaces are done take them to an anodizing outfit and they can anodize in any colour you like. This should give you the grip you are looking for.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it would be cheaper to buy new rims in that situation. I was just looking for a low cost way of doing it for some old ones :)
