For those of you who manage their accounts on a computer Personal Accountz is well worth consideration in my opinion. Excellent piece of software, borne out of simple principles, with absolutely first class support (which is free). No affiliation, just overwhelmingly impressed with the software and company (been using it for over two years now).

Personal Accountz works on all platforms and the same file can be read across platforms too (i.e. you use Windows to create a file and sent it to your accountant who uses Linux - no problem).

jl how did you get ledger to worok on windows - i tried to open it but it is a .gz file = unkown file extension so I 'm buggered to use it

You need to unzip the Gzip file methinks with a Gzip unzipper program.

I use Sage - but then again my accounts are Ltd Co accounts.

I did say I believe it will work. As I don't use windows I've no idea though.
I'd imagine there is some software capable of gunzipping on windows but I don't know for sure.

7-zip http://www.7-zip.org/ for Windows will (un)compress just about format going. IIRC it's a two stepper if it's a .tar.gz file.
