Abranet hand sanding block

I picked up a hand sanding block in Yandles yesterday (the one with the dust extraction port), along with some abranet pads. When I got home, I found that unlike the one on the display, the block did not have an intermediate foam pad included with it for sanding not-quite flat items. Should there have been one? If so, I will see if they can mail me one.

Also, I just plugged it into my vacuum to try it, and it whistles like a train!!
Does everybody's do this?

Mine does.

Worth it though for the speed, convenience and quality.

Si, I forgot to say that mine whistles as well. The reduction in dust is almost unbelievable and the sheets hardly ever clog up.

Mine is so loud and shrill it's almost unbearable even with ear defenders on...
Not sure what I can do to quiten it down, either...

Decrease the suction in your vacuum, that should help with the noise. The foam backing pad is an extra accessory, but worth the price, IMHO. You can easily wear the pad and it's much more expensive to replace the whole thing, rather than just the pad. I've hit a few nails that have been a bit up (noticed them too late) and that took a piece out of the sanding block's velcro... #-o

Can't easily reduce the suction from my vac...
However, I did have one of these sat in the corner of my server room...

Just enough suck, and no whistling.

I understand that there's a newly designed sanding pad out, which doesn't whistle :evil: It's really the only downside of the system, apart from only being able to sand flat surfaces - Rob

I was looking at this in screwfix and though a pack of 10 sheets for nearly £10 was really expensive. Have subsequently discovered that you can purchase them much cheaper. What can I expect to pay for the block and sanding sheets ?
