I finally managed to get a day in the shed :D

Spent most of the morning on jewelry box projects, this stopped when a lack of forward planning ground the work to a halt.

Not to be put off I chopped up some foam to inlay into a case to store chuck bits (looks a bit rough but does the job.)

Butt jointed a lid for another box.

Knocked up a overhead tool rack.

Ruined a cedar platter.

Finished a nice Burr Elm bowl.

All in all a nice day, I will add some pictures tomorrow.

I hope you are all well :D

Hey Rich, that's not fair, you wake up and stick your head over the wall, talk about Elm Burrs and renegue on the pictures :p

yes this post is worthless without pics.

Can I ask how the bowl got ruined? Interested to know how things go wrong (I'm a sub-beginner)

Gawd, we've got levels now :sub-beginner, beginner, post- beginner,
Newbie, intermediate, getting- better, pretty-damn-good, ruddy-expert, to the ultimate, Cor, I wish I could do something like that. =D> =D>

Don't rush me, these things take time.

Back to normal work today though, still there might be some time over the weekend, fingers crossed

That's a beautiful bowl Rich, but the thought of all those shavings on the floor are making my eyes water.

I know what you mean Chas, but a bowl saver is quite a long way down the list at the moment, one day :D

I ruined the platter because I was rushing and being lazy. I had turned and sanded it ages ago and it was waiting for a finish.

I didn't change the jaws the the larger diameter, so they were only gripping on the outside of the curve a little.

On the third coat of oil I pushed a bit hard and it came spinning off

My fault, fair enough, I wont do it again.

Cedar is great fun to turn, smells amazing. It does require a gentle touch and it soaks up a finish like a sponge!!!!!!!

Wow...that's a really nice bowl. Lovely simple shape. Is it around 14" diameter?

Smashing bowl Rich. I`ve never turned a burr whats it like??.
BTW whats the chuck in the case?
Regards
Steve

Hi Rich,
Lovely burr bowl, i`ve only turned a couple of burrs & even though i found them tricky, they are definitely worth the effort.
Your chisel holder looks a little precarious, do they not have a tendency to slide out?
If you can get a pass out Tony Wilson is at EVWA this Saturday 10am-4.30pm.
Cheers,
Doug.
