Chewing Gum should be taxed and the revenue spent on removing used gum from seats on public transport; the underside of table-tops in pubs & restaurants and the roads & footways. I estimate £10 a packet should be enough to start.

Agree 100% I spent a couple of decades doing maintenance work in a hotel - I don't think I ever worked on a piece of furniture that didn't have gum stuck to it somewhere. Filthy stuff.

I remember my Nana use to have broken bottles cemented into the top of her backyard wall. It was a full height wall about 7' high. I've seen those Prickstrips around here.

Unfortunately, I think that would now be illegal in the United Kingdom

Think you are right, http://thecrimepreventionwebsite.com/ga ... and-gates/ however it looks like you can limit your liability by warning the scrotes first and give them the chance to decide if they want to risk hurting themselves

I can't understand people keeping their workshops safe with a padlock only which can be cut through in minutes ! On my doors i have deadlocks top and bottom plus a mortice lock in the middle. The 2 mating doors have metal strips fixed to them screwed in place with security screws to stop a crowbar. The inside of the doors have 16G wire pinned to them to stop anyone cutting a hole in them. All windows have metal grills.
If they want to get in they will always find a way but if you make it look difficult they will try next doors instead.

My shed has a cylinder deadlock and a rimlock rather than a padlock.
The hinges are fixed with those screws that can't be undone.
There are inch wide steel strips across the windows (fixed with carriage bolts from the outside).
There's a solar powered PIR lamp outside the door.
And I keep portable powertools inside the house.

All these were fairly easy to install.

And access is only by the side gate (Cylinder lock) with Prikkastrip on the top.
