A friend of mine sent me a few pictures of a bench rabbet plane for identifying. Otherwise it looks like a #10, but instead of 14" it's 18" long. On the first pic the plane is side-by side with a #6 for comparison

The iron and chipbreaker are made by Stanley. Looking at the tote I would think that it even may be a self-made plane, someone just has cannibalized a few components from a Stanley plane.

What do you think? Any hints or ideas?

Interesting. I think the very long nose means it's either a cut down and converted #8, or a true "home made" (not converted). The latters notion sits well with the unusual tote.

I haven't got the exact dimensions of the plane, but I doubt it could be a #8 in any case. You would have to have a Stanley iron wider than a #8 to get to the edges and as far as I know it there isn't one.

I am starting to believe that it's a home-brewn one. I checked my friend and iron, chipbreaker and frog all have Stanley stamps and the rest definitely isn't from a Stanley. So whatever it is, some parts were stolen from a Stanley in any case...
