Just a old wooden plane?
But with a tool steel sole.
The dirt that was washed out in my vapor tank.
The blade was re-ground and sharpened.
It cuts very well.

No need to butcher a good, but still working tool by adding a light.Lovely!

I always wondered if those steel soles were user add ons or did some makers sell them that way. It would increase the life of the plane many times over but there are plenty very old wood sole planes still out there too.

It's my understanding that some manufacturers, at least in the U.S., offered planes with added steel soles.
