A day away from Revision...

The never ending task of revision has been present for a few weeks now..

And i decided to have a break from it all on monday and came up with this..

In case you cant tell, it's supposed to be a footstool or something to sit a teddy on :roll:

Not much to gloat about, but the weaving hasn't come out too bad...It was my first time doing it so i was unsure of the results at first..

Simple mortice and tenon joinery with a wax finish (to be applied)

Made from an old beam that got ripped out of a house...

Not 100% sure on the timber species, but i suspect its Red Oak, or similar

Another project to add to the portfolio

not too sure about your species but red oak it aint... maybe pitch pine...

The mother says it is 'Bias Binding'.. i havn't a clue what she's on about but hey :shock:

Nice one Tom. It brings back memories of the first project i ever made at school. The only difference was that i used some reed type thing to weave the seat.

Nice job, Tom - well done! That's a very well tried and tested design you have got there. I go for pitch pine, too. Bias-binding, IIRC, was a tape used by mums for finishing the hems on curtains, etc.

'Spect you are talking about one of these. :lol: The seat is woven in what was called sea-grass. Made this one at school in 1957, in oak with all planing and m/t joints done by hand, french polish finish (not much of that left), and got me a G.C.E. in woodwork! :roll: Still going strong - now used by LOML as a 'step-up' to reach the high kitchen cupboards.
