A couple of small tables, similar but not the same.

I was asked, by a neighbour, to make a little table to be a present, when she got it, she wanted another similar, for someone else, here they both are.

Tables made of European Oak, 22mm. thick, legs 38mm. square, tapered 20deg. on two face sides, rails 45mm. x 10mm. M.& T. jointed.
Banding 12mm. in Walnut, cut 3mm. thick on the bandsaw, fitted in a routed groove to stand proud by about half a mm. then cut back with a scraper, the second band is only put there to diguise the fact that a couple of small chunks came out when routing, I don,t know what the Red timber is, I believe it is from S. America and seems to be used for packing, if anyone can enlighten me then thanks.
Finish is three coats of Rustins Plastic Coating, cut back with T.Cut and burnished with Beeswax fine paste to a gloss finish.
Oh! I would add, that the tapers were cut on a bandsaw, with a little jig I made some years ago and has stood me in good stead, then hand planed.

They're nice Derek, particularly the right hand one with the simpler banding. You really are a convert to the Rustins Plastic Coating, aren't you? I shall try cutting back and burnishing next time.

It looks to me as though you have tapered the outside of the legs? ..........Or is that just the photo?

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the comments, the simpler banding is, if course best, but, as I said it chipped on me so I had to do different.
The legs are tapered on the two exposed faces.
As for Rustins P.C., well, to be honest, when I've used up what I have I must go back to Danish oil as I have a half gallon of it, also I do enjoy French polishing, so wait and see!.

on this site if you use the edit button (top right hand corner of your post), you can edit the title as well as the content. You could correct your typo in the title (sinilar instead of similar) in a jiffy......

One day I'll get you to talk us through French Polishing (but not yet! Wait until I have a suitable project........my current project involves the angle grinder and welder!!)

Time wise, probably about five or six hours, in bits and pieces.
Three boards? Two was never a question, make them too wide and it is a job to stop the top twisting or cupping.

Very nice Derek - particularly the more simple design on the right. You're tempting me to try some simple banding or inlay in some occasional table tops that I'm mulling over as I write.

As I said to Mike yesterday, they both started out the same, I lost a couple of chips out of the surface , thought they wouldn't be obvious, but, had to camoflage with another strip, at least we know how to get over the problems.
