I marked the small dovetails with the Woodjoy marker (at 6:1).

Now, with regards, Ian's wonderful creation that he made specially for you .. well I could not begin to compete with him in my wildest dreams ..

Alf

I have such mixed feelings about duplicate posts on the various forums. What I dislike are the ones where a question is asked, such as "what XYZ tool would you buy", or "how do you do ..?". Just how many times do you need to ask the same question?!

On the other hand, many of us read a few forums, but most only read one. As a result, when I have completed a review I tend to post it to on a few forums, generally those that I think will be interested.

Posting of tools - newly built or as a gloat - well, it has to be WoodNet (after all, that is their main interest), and I generally always post to Wood Central. I posted here because I had not done so in a while.

What are your thoughts?

Regards from Perth

Derek

My thoughts? Well generally if something's good it gets around okay - may take a while, but as neanderthals we're used to not doing things in a hurry. I think at the very least it's nice not to post the same thing word for word, but it's just my own personal feeling and can be safely ignored.

Cheers, Alf

Derek does indeed spread himself, even when ill. Generally I try and skip commenting on cross-posted threads as a mild form of protest ...

I agree, but in this case on the Woodcentral post I suggested a clear gauge and here I was commenting on your suggestion. In fact, normally I wouldn't post anywhere in this case unless I had a question; but Derek's posts usually pay off so much that I like to encourage him. In fact, normally I don't even read such a post on more than one forum; but you UK types are so up on gauges and the like that I thought there'd be useful comments.

On multiple posting, I don't have a problem with it, except that it does mean that:
1. unless you happen to be on all the same boards as the poster, you may miss some useful discussion (just compare the discussion on this thread with the equivalent thread on the Australian Forum :
http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au ... ail+marker
2. in the future, if you are trying to locate a point that came out of the discussion you have to search multiple boards.

My preference is for people to:

1. put these on a blog or, less desirably (because you then have to join another to participate in the discussion) on one forum; and
2. then put FYI posts on other forums (fora?) to which they belong informing them of the blog or "central" forum.

But, since Derek's posts are always fascinating, I don't care how he goes about it.
