George, I couldn't get on with the original straight handle, it seemed to put my wrist at the wrong angle and I found it very difficult to cut straight. The new handle has transfomed the saw for me. I wrote a post about it here https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=13906&highlight=
Marc, the seat slats are screwed to the supports and the holes plugged. I suppose they could be screwed from underneath and then the holes could be left unplugged. I did it this way 'cos teh bench I was basing it on was done this way. The front rail and the upper back rail have the same curve so were made from the same board to save wood. I used a thin piece of wood bent between a couple of nails to mark out the curve and cut them out on the bandsaw. Drum and belt sander to finish them off.
